Observation network
The basis of the seismic observation network of the Institute of Geophysical Research of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan, upon the Institute’s establishment, was formed by the geophysical observatories Borovoye, Kurchatov, Aktyubinsk, and Makanchi, which had been created in Soviet times specifically to monitor nuclear tests conducted in different regions of the world. In 1994, they were transferred to the Institute of Geophysical Research of the NNC RK.
